Here at JANDAZ we are dedicated to recording the breeding of cockapoos as being the correct breeding involving only pure (traceable) cocker spaniels and pure (traceable) poodles to create the cockapoo and true cockapoo to cockapoo for generational breeding.will also be able to provide the scientific and genetic basis needed to declare the cockapoo a true breed, up from a hybrid cross. Cockapoos have been bred since at least the 1950's as an ideal companion pet and family dog. here at jandaz we produce successive generations and to keep detailed breeding records that will be able to stand the scrutiny if required for upcoming registry. Either breed can be the sire or dam, but the American Cocker is usually used as the dam. English Cockers are also acceptable as dams or sires and have fewer genetic problems than the American Cocker. The hybrid vigor resulting from crossing these two popular breeds creates a dog that exhibits not only the "best of both" breeds but produces a better family pet than in either parent breed. The Cockapoo has become known and in demand for its wonderful disposition, high intelligence and curiosity, devoted loyalty, as well as for the hypoallergenic characteristics of little to no dander, shedding or odor.

PLEASE NOTE
A true cockapoo is ONLY a purposeful, planned crossing of a purebred cocker spaniel with a purebred poodle. Without a traceable background anything cute and fuzzy could be (and has been) passed off as a "cockapoo" by unscrupulous people. You also find professional breeders operating small structures with maximum two different breeds, where 'professional' stands for dedication, funds, planning, organization. Professional breeders have the structure, time and network to do correctly what many 'backyard breeders' or occasional hobby breeders are not able to do. A good breeding program needs good planning ability, a solid network, and financial sustainability (for example, being able to feed and care for the puppies for as long as they are not sold), All puppies are sold on the understanding that they will be returned to us if they ever need to be rehomed, whatever the reason & age.

Characteristics of the Cockapoo
The Cockapoo derives from the Poodle its extraordinary intelligence and non shedding coat. (Realistically, no dog exists that does not shed, so a better term would be low-shed.) When combed and brushed, some hair does come out, but it is not likely that you will find dog hairs on the carpet, etc. Because the Poodle is commonly referred to as non shedding, this term will be used. Likewise, there is very little dander, which is the main culprit in allergies to dogs. This makes the Cockapoo the ideal choice for those who have problems with allergies.

The Cockapoo's sweet nature, patient disposition and sturdy build come from the Cocker Spaniel. The resulting personality is unparalleled in its ability to relate to people and children. They are famous for being loyal, affectionate, open and friendly, non destructive, eager to please, easily trained, vigorous, clean, healthy and long lived (18-22 years). The dog's flexibility and range of sizes makes it ideal for a number of special situations. Cockapoos are not meant to be outside dogs.




Size. Size is determined by the height, rather than the weight, of the adult dog. Height is measured to the top of the shoulder in standing position.
Toy: 10” or less at shoulder height – under 12 pounds as a general rule N.B. ALL MY TOY GIRLS ARE ABOVE STANDARD HEIGHT ..
Mini: 11” – 14” at shoulder - usually 12-20 pounds
Standard: 15” or higher – over 20 pounds

COLOR AND MARKINGS:
Typical colors black, white, buff, cream, apricot; any of these colors with white markings
Special colors red, chocolate
Parti two or more solid colors, one of which must be white
Phantom usually a black body with brown color on legs, under tail, eyebrows, side of face
Sable black or dark brown at birth, lightening to a mix of gold, silver, red, brown, or tan; darker points in coloring, usually on the face and ears
Tri-color parti color with tan markings over eyes, on muzzle, ears, legs and sometimes chest
Merle lighter colors of the base color swirled with the darker base color
Roan single white hairs and white patches intermingled with the base color

Personality. Cockapoos are highly trainable, with a keen intelligence. They are curious and eager to perform. They do well with one-person owners as well as with families with young children. They are very people-oriented, outgoing and happy dogs.
Hair. Coat is usually dense; may be wavy or curly; usually little-to-no-shedding.
